The Diocesan Performing Arts Centre Wins The Auckland Architecture Award For Education

The Diocesan School for Girls Performing Arts Centre has been named the winner of the 2022 NZIA Auckland Architecture Award in the education category.

Designed in collaboration with Upton Architects, the expansive building incorporates teaching and practice facilities for music, drama and dance, together with a gallery reception foyer and a 1000-seat Auditorium.

“This project is impressive in scale and ambition. Building on an already constrained site adjacent to the heritage listed Chapel of St Barnabas, the architects have carefully manipulated the external form and its finishes to provide a striking new frontage for the school and a nuanced neighbour to the chapel. The result is a built project that sensitively and elegantly mediates between scales, occasions and learning needs.” - Te Kāhui Whaihanga New Zealand Institute of Architects (NZIA)
